Rain

Rain.
Rain.
And lots of it.
It came down, down from the skies, sometimes harder than other times, sometimes softer, but always coming, flooding the trees and the grass and the ground.
Gray.
Everywhere.
The sky, the trees, the road, everything, everywhere, forever into the distance.
Water.
It gushed out of downspouts, rushing down driveways into ditches, roaring into streams, and cascading finally into the gray sea.
It had been raining for 3 days, ceaselessly pattering down onto the world.  Now, as the rivers become roaring oceans of foam, the clouds have let up a bit.  Slowly, slowly, the torrents of rain are reduced to a drizzle and then finally stops.
For a fleeting, magical moment, silence reigned over the world, and then, as slowly as the rain had ceased its relentless pattering, the sounds of the world began.  A single bird call, a car's engine, and one by one, the familiar sounds took over once again.
The sun came out, and slowly dried the soaked ground, and the rivers returned to their normal banks, until nothing was left as a reminder of the endless days of downpour.
