Lights are shining through the dark
Upon the stage, upon the set;
Sounds of silence, wisdom -- hark!
But careful now, the paint's still wet.

Upon the stage, upon the set,
Brushes, cans, and rollers lie.
But careful now, the paint's still wet;
The scenery is not yet dry.

Brushes, cans, and rollers lie
Amid the ladders and the cords.
The scenery is not yet dry
Around the tools, nails, and boards.

Amid the ladders and the cords
Lights are shining through the dark.
Around the tools, nails, and boards,
Sounds of silence, wisdom -- hark!
