Autumn
(written in 1994, in 4th grade)

The breezes are cool
Children go to school
And you do not drool
And you're not a fool
You use a tool
And you ride a mule.

Listen to the trees
And the humming of the bees
Then fall on your knees
And have a big sneeze
And then you use some keys
And parents pay their fees.

Kids have homework to do
And have a knot in their shoe
Their clothes are new
And you wear lots of blue
Your hair is combed too
And all are coo-coo.

It is Halloween
And people are keen
Some turn a teen
Your food is lean
And you're not mean
And you're not clean.

It's the opposite of may
And it is the time to play
Now Autumn doesn't stay
But it comes another day
And then some people say
That sometimes they use clay.

You change your sheet
You don't look neat
You never cheat
The birds go Tweet
You have new feet
On computers you press delete.

You hope you won't get sick
You meet a boy named Nick
Your teacher's clocks go tick
The chicken has a chick
The forest isn't thick
You see ice cream you'll lick.

You have a runny nose
For the camera you will pose
You lean on your elbows
You also count your toes
The door you're going to close
And then Autumn goes.
